What CCS child care assistance actually covers
Who qualifies, where you apply, and what to have ready before you call.

Child Care Services, usually called CCS, helps eligible Texas families pay for child care so parents can work, attend school, participate in training, or meet other approved activity requirements. In the Athens area, the program is administered through Workforce Solutions East Texas.
CCS is not the same as free child care for every family. Eligibility and the amount of assistance depend on current program rules, household circumstances, income, family size, approved activity, the children needing care, and available funding. Some families may also have a parent share of cost or other amount they remain responsible for.
If you think you may qualify, start with Workforce Solutions East Texas rather than waiting until you have already chosen a start date. Application and wait-list procedures can change. Gather the documents the agency requests promptly and respond to follow-up requests so your application does not stall unnecessarily.
Tell the child care provider that you are applying for CCS. Once care is authorized, the provider and the CCS office have steps to complete as well. A childcare center cannot simply declare a family eligible or decide what CCS will pay; the authorization has to come through the program.
Ask questions about what you may still owe. Families should understand their parent fee, any charges that are not covered by the authorization, attendance requirements, and what happens if their authorization changes or expires. Keeping your CCS case information current helps prevent surprises.
